Overview

The State Code of Florida requires that all municipalities and counties within the state enforce the most current (5th edition, 2014, effective 06/30/15) Florida Building Code, including Building, Residential and Existing Building Codes, at a minimum. 13.9. – Roof covering.

"No new metal roofing shall hereafter be installed on buildings in residential areas where other types of roofing prevail more than metal roofs on surrounding homes. Metal roof replacement or repairs shall be permitted on existing buildings. Metal roofs shall be permitted on accessory structures and as approved in historical districts."

13.11. – Conduit required.

"All new electrical wiring in new or existing buildings being wired or rewired, as the case may be, (1) for business, industrial or commercial occupancy, or (2) for wet locations, or (3) for locations subject to mildly corrosive fumes and vapors, shall be in an approved raceway. In all residential buildings to be used, in whole or in part, for commercial or business purposes, such commercial or business part shall be wired in an approved raceway from its own panel, supplied from the main panel."

Existing Buildings

Existing buildings, meaning buildings that were built in accordance to code at the time of construction, typically merit extra consideration in a current updated code.
